For the protection of Wild at Heart Refuge Centre and its members, staff, directors, donors, volunteers, and stakeholders
Wild at Heart is committed to protecting your personal information and ensuring compliance with the provincial Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. F.31 and the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, S.C. 2000, c. 5. We collect information that is related to you as an identifiable individual. This information includes your name, your mailing address, your e-mail address and other contact information. If you make a monetary gift to Wild at Heart, we may also collect your credit card information or personal banking information to the extent that it appears on any cheques you send us or to the extent that it is transmitted to us via the Interac debit card network. Why is it collected?
We collect personal information in order to ensure that all interested parties are informed of Wild at Heart events and programs and are given the opportunity to attend such events and participate in their planning. Contact information is also used to send official receipts for tax purposes, and newsletters in electronic or hard copy form to those who wish to receive them.We also obtain personal information from prospective volunteers because we need to know who is assisting us with our responsibilities as a Wildlife Custodian, and because we require liability waivers from those of our volunteers who wish to assist us in our animal care activities. In the case of individuals who bring injured/orphaned/sick wild animals to Wild at Heart for treatment, personal information is collected so that we may: release the animal close to its capture site (as is required by law); follow up in cases where an animal is found to have an illness that may be transmitted to humans, or if we have additional questions that may affect the treatment of the animal.How is your personal information collected?We collect personal information on a strictly voluntary basis from persons who wish to receive more information about Wild at Heart, wish to support Wild at Heart as a friend of the organization, or have an interest in assisting us with animal care, fundraising, construction or educational activities. We collect information through membership and volunteer application forms. We also obtain personal information from persons who contact Wild at Heart in person, by telephone, e-mail or postal mail.
What is it used for?
We use personal information collected from interested members of the public, Wild at Heart Members and volunteers in order to inform them of upcoming Wild at Heart events, and to invite them to assist us with our activities, including animal care and fundraising events. Personal information is also used to communicate with all stakeholders regarding Wild at Heart’s progress and news about animals we are treating and outreach activities.We use personal information collected from members and all other persons who have expressed an interest in Wild at Heart in order to invite these persons to support Wild at Heart with donations of cash, goods or services.Wild at Heart does not sell personal information that it collects, and does not disclose personal information to third parties except as required by law.Financial information collected is for the purpose of ensuring that donated funds are properly credited to the Wild at Heart account at the organization's financial institution, and for providing receipts to donors for income tax purposes.When group e-mails are sent, the recipients’ e-mail addresses are always ‘blind carbon copied’ so that they remain privateWhere is it kept?All personal information collected by Wild at Heart is kept electronically and in hard copy form on the premises at 11 White Road, Lively,
